To fit: x-small, small, medium, large, x-large prem. baby - larger sizes given in brackets.

Using a size 3.5mm hook Chain 22(26, 30, 33, 36)

Row 1: Half treble into 3rd chain from hook and in the next 16(20, 23, 26, 29) chains. Double crochet into each of the last 3(3, 4, 4, 4) chains. 1 chain, turn.

Row 2: Double crochet into each of the first 3(3, 4, 4, 4) stitches. Half treble into each of the next 17(21, 24, 27, 30) stitches. 2 chain, turn.

Row 3: Half treble into each of the first 17(21, 24, 27, 30) stitches. Double crochet into each of the last 3(3, 4, 4, 4) stitches.

Turning chains are not counted as a stitch; you should work 20(24, 28, 31, 34) stitches in each row.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the cap measures approximately 5(6,7,8¼,9½) inches ending with row 2.

Finishing

Either sew or slip stitch the beginning edge to the back loop of the last row, being careful to leave the front loops of the last row free on the outside of the cap so the ribbed pattern is continuous around the cap. Use a length of thread to gather together the top of the cap and fasten off securely.
